Google Web Fonts: Fuentes para tu web / Fonts for your web

Unos de los problemas con que nos encontramos la gente que trabaja con páginas Web es el problema de las fuentes. Tu no puedes diseñar una página con la fuente que quieras, porque si el ordenador de destino no la tiene no la verá. Y las fuentes por defecto son bastante pobres.

  Google, para variar, da una posible solución a este problema. En Google web fonts deja disponible un catálogo de fuentes para su uso tanto en ordenadores como en Webs. Con la inclusión del código html que facilitan, la web usa los servidores de Google para mostrar esas fuentes. El ordenador del cliente descargará la primera vez la fuente y, a partir de entonces, la tendrá almacenada en caché.

One of the problems Web designers find when building a web is the use of fonts. Fonts have to be installed on the client’s computer for him to see them properly, and you can never be sure if it is installed. The fonts we can use as a default are really  basic and so much over-used.

Google -what a surprise- brought out a solution for this problem. Their servers host a group of fonts under the opensource license which you can use in your websites, blogs and computers. If you add the correct code (which they give) in your page, the client will have the font silently downloaded on the first connection. After this first visit, the font will be stored in the caché and he’ll be able to use it without downloading it.
